6 Reasons Buda, TX Should Become Your New Live Music Destination
By Hunter Lanier
It’s no secret that Texas is a hotbed of live music. But what you might not know is that just south of Austin sits the enchanting little town of Buda, TX, which has proven itself to be quite the hidden gem for concertgoers around the state. Before word gets out, start planning your visit to Buda by checking out their most popular venues and concert series below.
Summer Concert Series
When the sun gets low in the Texas summer, the weather hits that sweet spot of temperate perfection. And there’s no better way to savor this special time of day than with the Summer Concert Series at the Buda Amphitheater.
Throughout the summer, the Buda Amphitheater hosts live music and live theater. But wait! We haven’t said the best part yet. Every show is absolutely free, so all you have to worry about is finding the best spot on the great lawn to put your picnic blanket or lawn chair.
Red, White, and Buda
Throughout July 4th, Buda City Park will be celebrating our nation’s independence the only way it knows how: live music, food vendors, fun free activities, and, of course, fireworks. After kicking off Red, White, and Buda with a patriotic parade on Main Street, the family can head over to the park to enjoy bounce houses, games, and much more.
Starting at around 5pm, live music will ring out across the park from Buda Amphitheater, setting the mood for the spectacular fireworks display happening at around 9pm. If you’re wondering how all these activities will fit into your budget, just multiply zero by zero because it’s all free!
Meridian
If you’re looking for a mellower concert experience, you’re going to want to swing by Meridian. Almost every day, Meridian puts on live music, live comedy, or interactive events like trivia night. Musical artists range from violinists to singer/songwriters to traditional rock ‘n’ roll.
To call Meridian a coffee shop would be selling it short, because when the sun sets, the coffee shop transforms into a full-on bar with beers, wines, and cocktails. What makes their menu truly unique, however, is its medicinal mocktails. Created by local herbalists, each of these drinks is designed with a different health benefit in mind. Nothing like a night of fun with drinks you can feel good about drinking!
Mavericks Dance Hall
Texas is synonymous with country music and Mavericks Dance Hall has everything a country music fan could ask for. To accompany its ever-rotating lineup of country artists, the venue sports a huge dance floor for when the music’s just too good to be sitting down for.
The venue even has its very own patio, where you can hang out, play games, and find the DJ keeping the good vibes afloat. Five bars are located throughout Mavericks, with four around the dance hall and one on the patio, so no matter where you are, you won’t have to go far!
Buck’s Backyard
Everyone loves a big backyard. But even better than a big backyard is Buck’s Backyard, a feel-good watering hole with live music every Friday and Saturday night, as well as larger concerts that run from spring to November. You’ll also want to keep an eye out for themed events like Salsa Night. Roses to hold in your teeth are not provided.
If you didn’t think it could get any better, this 15-acre venue is dog-friendly, so bring along your little buddy and maybe you’ll both make some new friends. Games, pool tables, and even a playground for the kids are located on the premises, as well. A big backyard, indeed!
Willie’s Joint
As great as live music is, sometimes, you just want to hear yourself belting out your favorite song. If this hits home, you may want to hit up Willie’s Joint, the best music venue in Buda for karaoke. Karaoke season is all year-round, but crawfish season only comes once a year. And when it does, Willie’s is the place to be.
In addition to their varied selection of traditional bar foods, food trucks are parked outside if you’re in the mood for something a little different. Kids are allowed to join in on the fun, but only until 10pm. Likewise, Willie’s Joint is a dog-friendly establishment, and might even have an ice cream treat for your little buddy.
